It seems like every major boxing match that comes down the pike has the same burden as the one before it, to save boxing.
Is boxing really in that bad a shape? Lately the sport has been pitted against MMA for fighting sport supremacy, and many people feel like MMA is the better of the two vastly different sports. Part of the reason boxing seems to be on the decline has got to do with how terribly disorganized the sport has become.
Xtreme Boxing Challenge seeks to change all that by adding a whole new system into the boxing mix. Instead of a bunch of promoters setting up fights seemingly at random, a tournament style has been introduced. Fighting ‘round-robin’ style, the contenders (who must have at least 10 pro fights under their belts) will fight in short bouts of five 3 minute rounds. The winner advances and fights again that very same night.

WXBC’s mission is to provide fans with competitive and exciting fights with a price point that is affordable to all, offering talented fighters a platform from which they can showcase their skills to a global audience while filling in the gap between fighters that make no money and the fighters who fight for mega–millions.
World Xtreme Boxing Challenge was created by esteemed Don House, who has helped mold the careers of boxers and UFC fighters such as Diego Corrales, Freddy Norwood, Chuck Lidell, Tito Ortiz and many more. WXBC provides tournament style boxing and has implemented new ideas to better serve the sport. “I’m excited to see my vision, WXBC, come to fruition!” says creator Don House, “traditional boxing has tarnished the image of the sport, from protected fighters to the numerous ‘red tape’ sanctions. In order to qualify for WXBC, each fighter must have at least ten professional bouts under their belt. WXBC will provide a once-per-month event, with every fourth month being held in another country. Each event will feature one weight class, the first being heavyweights, then light-heavyweights, super-middleweights and lightweights. In one day, there will be six elimination bouts, with the seventh being the final, broken down into five three-minute rounds. Open scoring will ensure fair judging and refereeing and the fighters will be paid round per round based on performance.
WXBC strives to be the most competitive and contemporary boxing promoter in the world, bringing the sport out of the dark ages and making the playing field equal and fair to all fighters, giving them a chance to proudly represent their countries and themselves. One component that is unique to this organization is their humanitarian efforts in their charity division, Fighting For A Better World. Every month, WXBC will choose a charity “to fight for” and ask their sponsors and advertisers to contribute.
WXBC will be launching at the Wells Fargo Center in Des Moines, Iowa on August 29, 2008. Eight fighters from around the globe will converge to exhibit their talents and passion in one galvanizing evening, where over $2,000,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.
